Featuring intricate, non-linear storytelling and an uncommon emotional pungency, 7 Minutes is a taut, tightly controlled exercise that should spell bigger and better things for its tyro director/screenwriter. 7 Minutes is gripping from start to finish.
• Nytimes.com: 7 Minutes knows exactly what it is: a directorial calling card to the Quentin Tarantino school of blood-bath cinema. Colorful peripheral characters include Brandi (Mariel Neto), a promiscuous barfly who seduces Mike, and Jerome (Brandon Hardesty), a blubbery policeman who pines for her. In one of the movie's meanest touches, Jerome takes off his shirt, inspects his torso in a mirror, and screams in horrified despair. This film is a nasty piece of work.
• Pastemagazine.com: Martin's attention to visuals comes from his years as a storyboarder and music video director (Death Cab for Cutie, Nas, Colbie Caillat). He knows his strengths, and his derivative debut is crafted with the methodical finesse and sophisticated composition of someone who prays at the style altars of Derek Cianfrance and Cary Fukunaga. 7 Minutes is a slick ride through a sexy cultural wasteland.
• LATimes.com: Martin keeps the action, which includes bits of bone-crunching violence, moving apace with solid atmospherics and credible tough-guy dialogue and attitude.
  Flyckeringmyth.com: A strong début feature from writer/director Martin, 7 Minutes goes beyond the conventional bank heist drama to provide a provocative and memorable visual experience. 4*.
• Thestar.com: Writer-director Jay Martin's 7 Minutes puts an entertaining spin on the heist movie with a fast-moving drama that flits from past to present during a bank job. A solid score and tight camerawork shows Martin's background as a music video director translates well to big-screen work.

  Wearemoviegeeks.com: From the moment the three amateur crooks come busting through the door wearing blank, white Halloween masks (which may or may not be a nod to Eyes Without a Face) waving guns they have no intention of using to the final showdown, 7 MINUTES is a remarkable piece of work. I am impressed; I have to give 7 MINUTES at least 4 stars out of 5.

• Waytooindie.com: A fun romp for film fans who just can't get enough of watching bumbling criminals struggle to successfully commit a crime.
• Moviebuzzers.com: Regardless of what your feelings on the ending might be, the road to get there is thrilling and makes 7 Minutes definitely worth a watch. You might think you've seen all that can be done with a heist film already, but you haven't seen something quite like this yet.

68 Kill

Beerputten uitmesten is niet bepaald het droomleventje dat hij voor ogen had, maar Chip (Matthew Gray Gubler - Criminal Minds) is een simpele all-American dude en met een sexy vriendinnetje als Liza (AnnaLynne McCord - 90210, Secrets and Lies) mag hij eigenlijk niet klagen. Ach, ze rommelt misschien wat aan met haar huisbaas, maar aan elke relatie scheelt wel wat. Tot lekkere Liza voorstelt om haar ranzige suikeroompje een fikse som afhandig te maken en hij plots een heel ander kantje van haar te zien krijgt. Al snel zit de naïeve Chip op een rollercoaster van uitzinnig geweld waar hij nooit meer uitkomt.

Hilarisch, hypnotisch en totaal over the top, neemt 68 Kill je mee op een grungy dollemansrit die gretig leentjebuur speelt bij andere gestoorde prenten als American Psycho, Pulp Fiction en Natural Born Killers. Winnaar van de publieksprijs op SXSW en uitgeroepen tot “Most Effectively Offensive” op het Boston Underground Film Festival 2017.

• Variety.com: A zesty black comedy whose nebbish hero gets subjected to a prolonged ordeal of painful misfortunes. viewers and programmers with a taste for midnight-movie outrageousness will cotton to its mix of sleaze, quease and bad-taste absurdism.
• Bloody-disgusting.com: For those seeking a viciously violent, amazingly cast and hilarious thriller, 68 Kill delivers on levels that few recent efforts have. This film’s singular vision of the dark side is brutally entertaining. Its idea of gender and masculinity are more old-fashioned than they need to be, but that doesn’t stop the female leads from giving balls-to-the-wall incredible performances. For this alone, this one is worth watching. This brand of insanity doesn’t come along often.

Not only Chip is the one in consistent need of rescue by one of the women in his life, but he’s often reduced to cringing and whimpering mess. With 68 Kill, Haaga delivers a crowd pleasing, high octane thriller that is well worth your time and energy.

While a number of them are deranged psychotics (for lack of a better word), they always capture your attention, and make you wonder just where the story is going to go next. 68 Kill comes well recommended.

Voormalig Navy SEAL Jack Collins (Milo Gibson, Hacksaw Ridge, zoon van Mel) is verslaafd aan pillen. En aan oorlog. Een afwijking die hem goed van pas komt bij het opsporen van terroristen, iets wat hij doet voor een privébedrijf, in opdracht van de CIA. Maar de premiejager kampt met persoonlijke demonen en van hogerhand stelt men zich vragen bij de potentiële risico’s. Daarom geeft zijn CIA-contact Leigh (Sylvia Hoeks – Blade Runner 2049, Overspel) hem een ultieme kans om in de frontlinies te blijven: met een driekoppig team moet hij in Londen de overgelopen CIA-agent McKnight vatten voor die de hand kan leggen op massavernietigingswapens. Maar McKnight dekt zich in de rug met een privémilitie die qua tactisch vernuft niet moet onderdoen voor Collins & Co. De leider van de vijand is immers een ex-strijdmakker.

Terzelfder tijd komt de drugsbaron in het vizier van DEA-agent Maxwell (Dolph Lundgren) en wordt zijn organisatie geïnfiltreerd door undercoveragente Beverly Royce (Carly Pope). Als haar dekmantel bedreigd wordt, krijgt de zaak een persoonlijk kantje voor Maxwell. Bovendien blijken bepaalde ordehandhavers, zoals LAPD-agent Jack Reiley (Randy Couture), niet helemaal zuiver op de graat.

Dat loopt uit op een ontvoering, losgeld, en erger. Of voert Mikey iets in zijn schild? JP aarzelt niet en zet alles op het spel om zijn broer te helpen. Samen met hun jeugdvriend en agent Sal (John Cusack) gaat JP de strijd aan met King en zijn legertje trawanten.

Regisseur Steven C. Miller (Submerged, Marauders, Silent Night) maakte van Arsenal een meeslepende actiethriller over schuld, boete en broederliefde, met spetterende actiescènes, sfeervolle grootstadsfotografie en een Cage die op magistrale wijze al zijn acteerduivels ontbindt.

• Examiner.com:the tone is firmly tongue-in-cheek ... Steinfeld gets Megan's social naiveté and desire for acceptance. She's exactly the kind of girl we cheer for in all of those old Hughes films. We want her to remain herself, become popular anyway, and get the guy she deserves to be with.
• Blu-ray.com: a quick pace and a jokey superspy atmosphere, almost resembling a "Spy Kids" sequel in the manner the effort merges cartoonish action with broad performances.
• CBSlocal.com: I liked Steinfeld in this film, as she has a commanding presence and makes the shift easily from the tough agent to the lost high school girl, at almost a moment's notice. She has great chemistry with both Jackson and Alba, making their roles believable.
• Soundonsight.com: Steinfeld and Turner are superb casting choices, possibly the best two actresses in the world that director Kyle Newman (Fanboys) could have gotten for those particular roles. Although Steinfeld has been in some clunkers since her Oscar nomination, she's still a great actress, and is fully committed here.
• The-other-view.com: The story is rock solid, easy to follow, straightforward. It's kinda fun and a total throwback to the 80s/90s high school comedy films, with some decent action tossed in.

• VillageVoice.com: Barely Lethal's combination of bawdy humor and earnest affection for its high-school-aged protagonists is surprisingly well-balanced.
• TheHollywoodnews.com: It's great to see Newman, D'Arco and co. attempting to mix things up with something a little bit different.

• Cine-vue./com: The movie is brimming with terrific one-liners. That sense of humour carries the film a long way; Steinfeld is a natural at comedy, and she is ably supported by a strong cast, including Samuel L. Jackson, Thomas Mann, Jessica Alba, and Disney starlet Dove Cameron.

• Bulletproofaction.com: Battle Drone did not have the star power of The Expendables or even some of the other movies inspired by the Stallone franchise, but what Battle Drone did have was plenty of video game style action jammed into the 93 minute runtime. I thought the cast had good chemistry and the movie progressed at an entertaining pace. Battle Drone also had a satisfying ending that left the door open for Rekker and company to see more action in the future.

Hoewel ze aan weerszijden van de wet staan, blijkt de grens daartussen vager dan ooit.

In deze bikkelharde actieprent over wraak, familiebanden en buiten de lijntjes kleuren, maakt ook rapper DMX (Cradle 2 the Grave, Exit Wounds) zijn opwachting als een detective die niet helemaal zuiver op de graat is.

Het genadeloze kopstuk van de bende (Garret Dillahunt) wil de brave huisvader op de knieën dwingen door zijn gezin te bedreigen, maar dat is buiten de verbetenheid van zijn tegenstander gerekend. • Fearnet.com: There's always something to be said for a quick and efficient crime thriller that introduces its characters and premise in an efficient manner, and then keeps throwing you bloody curve balls before jolting to a finish in less than 90 minutes. Cold Blooded is shot quite well, scored quite smoothly, and (especially) cut like a fast-paced dream. The cast is uniformly strong, the premise has a nice hook, and things actually get pretty dark and nasty before all is said and done. Fun stuff.

In a sea of mediocre Canadian films, Cold Blooded emerges as reason to celebrate.

• TheTFS.ca: a brutally bloody and occasionally darkly comic morality tale that's been making a name for itself on the Festival circuit, garnering praise from critics whenever it screens.
• EFilmCritic.com': The filmmaking is remarkably clear-eyed and economical. The first images, almost still photos, suggest snapshots of what happened and why it went wrong. Every edit and line of dialogue have a purpose: not for nothing do I compare Cold Blooded to early Carpenter, who never let plot get in the way of the story.
• Agentsofgeek.com: Lapeyre has done a remarkable job staying creative with his budget limitations and giving us interesting seedy characters that wouldn’t seem out of place in an Elmore Leonard novel. Cold Blooded cuts straight to the point and we’re in and out before we know what hit us. We are left with a fun tension filled action movie that’s not interested in being deep or philosophical but delivering some entertainment. In that retrospect, I can tell you that we get exactly what we were promised.

Tijdens zijn odyssee door de onderbuik van L.A., ontmoet de rebelse rechercheur mysterieuze figuren als de Stranger en de Blind Prophet en ontrafelt hij een gruwelijk geheim. Een geheim dat de getormenteerde ziel zijn leven kost, maar hem ook laat herrijzen … als moordmachine van vampieren en demonen.

Corbin Nash is een genadeloze horrorthriller die lustig laveert tussen sensuele vampire noir en spetterende gore. Maar regisseur Ben Jagger, broer van de hoofdrolspeler, verrast bovenal met zijn casting: filmiconen Rutger Hauer als The Stranger, Malcolm McDowell als The Blind Prophet en Corey Feldman (Gremlins, The Goonies) als travestiet-vampier Queeny.

In an effort to stand out, a lot of films over think the evil and end up losing the fear and power that vampires should capture. Corbin Nash is not one of those. It succeeds in giving vampires back their power and they have become scary again. Dialogue, characters, and casting all align perfectly to create an atmosphere of paranoia and fear when the sun goes down. It is for these reasons that CrypticRock humbly gives Corbin Nash 4.5 out of 5 stars.

• Nerdly.co.uk: Thanks to a well-developed story and exceptional performances from the cast, this is a film which is great fun to watch.
• Pophorror.com: Appreciable performances and action to keep you entertained. This is a dark, gritty crime noir film.
• Sinfulcelluloid.com: It was bloody, gory, sexual, it also had a great background story to Nash’s character, everything was about this film was done attractively to grab the viewers attention.
• Voicesfromthebalcony.com: Belonging as much to the action genre as horror, CORBIN NASH delivers several good fight scenes. Vince and Queenie make good foes for Nash and Feldman as a cross-dressing bloodsucker has to be seen to be believed.

Daylight's End

William Kaufman (One in the Chamber) levert met Daylight's End een wurgende, postapocalyptische actiethriller af met schitterend gechoreografeerde vuurgevechten en toepasselijke desolate visuals. Kenners zullen de knipogen naar het werk van John Carpenter en genreklassiekers als The Omega Man, Assault on Precinct 13 en The Road Warrior zeker weten te waarderen.

• 28dayslateranalysis.com: Daylight's End and the creators know what their strong points are: action sequences and terrifying scenarios. Consistently uptempo and full of great musical selections, the film creates a compelling and thrilling atmosphere. And, this viewer will be first in line, when the film is released in home entertainment formats; this tense film is not to be missed.
• Joblo.com: Daylight's End is an exceptionally well made film. The budget was relatively low, but that isn't felt in the film, which appears to play out on an epic scale, with its convincing shots of deserted disaster areas and abundance of action and gunfire. Kaufman knows action, that's the genre he has primarily been working in up to this point, and he used that knowledge to make the action sequences in this film as cool and thrilling as possible.
• Mikefury.net: One of the most striking elements of the film are the visuals. Kaufman has built a reputation creating slick, cinematic and equally gritty character-driven action with a definite air of coolness. This is made much easier when the star is Johnny Strong, who has to be one of the most underrated leading men in movies today. So for true action fans, horror buffs or anyone who still loves an authentic, exciting movie experience by great artists, Daylight's End is a real blast.
• Theactionelite.com: The movie is action-packed with plenty of violence and some cool weapons too so if you get to see the movie make sure you've got the sound turned up to 11 for maximum impact. Daylight's End brings the action goods with a badass hero in Johnny Strong, fast pacing and an unconventional script.
• Truthoncinema.com: Pure Adrenaline and Carnage. This film sets a standard for indie projects with vision larger than their budgets. It rolls hard and fast and pays the consequences for that choice, but ultimately walks away a winner; combining the action-oriented sensibilities of Resident Evil with the world-building prowess of I Am Legend. A worthy edition to the ranks of apocalyptic thrillers, Daylight's End is sure for a cult following if not mainstream success.
• Screenanarchy.com: One of the best things about this film is the action. The gun battles are meticulously choreographed and made with precision. The tactics are sound and the filmmakers have a clear familiarity with the weapons used. The fights are visceral and feel real, making them much more exciting than most of the CGI-laden films that regularly hit our screens these days.

Deadlock

Omdat ze de enige is die hem nooit in de steek liet, zet hij alles op alles om haar te redden. Ook al betekent moet hij daarvoor afdalen in de onderbuik van El Paso en de strijd aanbinden met een meedogenloze misdaadbaas. 

• Blu-ray.com: Scott Windhauser finds a fresh way to deal with old genre business in "Death in Texas." He commits to character and performance, working to get the audience invested in these damaged people and their emotional history, making clear connections between the players while gradually increasing tension.
• Eyeforfilm.co.uk: Boyle has had a number of misfires over the course of her career, but here she really delivers, and she has great chemistry with Lang. The other main performances are similarly impressive.
• Jbspins.com: Ronnie Gene Blevins deserves credit for his hardboiled but understated performance as Walker.
• Nightmarishconjurings.com: This cast is excellent. Bruce Dern brings that same grit that is present in the entire film and it makes him a perfect baddie. As for Stephen Lang, he’s a great actor, giving a great performance of a terribly written character. Truthfully, that’s the heart of the issue with this film. It’s a grouping of excellent performances.

Death Valley

Voormalig DEA-agent Martin Parker (vechtsporter Scott Adkins – Undisputed II en III, The Expendables 2) zit in een getuigenbeschermingsprogramma en leeft ondergedoken in Londen met zijn dochtertje Carly. Een stomme adresverwisseling zet hun relatief rustige leventje echter helemaal op zijn kop wanneer enkele schurken in zijn huis op zoek gaan naar verborgen smokkelwaar. Parker laat geen spaander heel van de indringers, maar zijn interventie zet hem wel weer op de radar van maffiabaas Chris Cooper (James Cosmo – Braveheart, Game of Thrones), zijn ex-schoonvader. Het criminele kopstuk stuurt zijn topkiller Bishop (WWE-superster Wade Barrett) op pad om Parker uit de weg te ruimen en gaat zelf achter Carly aan. Voor de voortvluchtige Parker begint een delicate evenwichtsoefening: Bishop elimineren en verhinderen dat zijn dochter in de dodelijke klauwen van haar grootvader valt.

De Britse regisseur James Nunn (Tower Block, The Marine 5: Battleground) levert een bikkelharde actiethriller af waarin ondraaglijke spanning en spectaculaire vechtscènes elkaar naadloos afwisselen.

• Blu-ray.com: Scott Adkins and Wade Barrett perform admirably, straightforward, largely, but carrying themselves and their characters satisfactorily well. Recommended.

• Theschlockpit.com"Eliminators is resolutely British, and with some awesome sequences set within the nation's capital city, like a couple of cool car chases and an immense bit of cable car combat, London is close to being the star of the picture. Adkins, as always, put his soul into this.

Wanneer voormalig FBI-agent Decker (Steven Seagal - Under Siege, A Dangerous Man, Executive Decision) tussenbeide komt om te verhinderen dat de mooie Lisa (Jade Ewen) door haar razende vriendje in elkaar wordt geslagen, kent zijn interventie een fatale afloop. In plaats van felicitaties en een onderscheiding wacht hem een rechtszaak en erger. Lisa, die zich bewust is van zijn situatie, vraagt zijn hulp bij het stelen van 2 miljoen dollar uit de auto van haar dode vriend, die bij de politie in bewaring staat. Hun missie slaagt, maar ontketent een spiraal van geweld, want een machtige drugsbaas pikt het niet dat iemand met zijn geld aan de haal gaat. • Punchdrunkcritics.com: Great Visuals And Strong Fight Choreography. The directing and editing during the battles is crisp, clear, full of tension, and greatly engaging. The large-scale CGI shots display clashing armies very well, and the close-up and intimate fighting scenes work incredibly well. The final battle especially is quite effective.

Hij besluit de band met zijn zoon weer wat aan te halen door hem in te wijden in de jacht, net zoals zijn vader ooit met hem deed. In het bos raken ze echter ongewild betrokken bij de nasleep van een mislukte bankoverval, waarbij een corrupte agent het leven laat. Will moet machteloos toekijken hoe Danny ontvoerd wordt. Als hij hem levend wil weerzien, moet hij de verstopte buit ophalen en het onderzoek van de politie saboteren. Regisseur Steven C. Miller (Silent Night, Extraction) levert andermaal een stevige thriller af waarin keiharde actie en wurgende suspens elkaar naadloos afwisselen. • Dallasfilmnow.com: First Kill is competent and involving. The action scenes — including one vehicle/RV chase that's constructed cleverly with an uninterrupted sense of place via gliding tracking shots — never feel unrealistic or exaggerated. And even though the film telegraphs a few of its third act character reversals, Miller and screenwriter Nick Gordon plumb the depths of innocence versus malignancy with a shrewd eye for satisfying entertainment.

Twintig jaar later worden de Britse onderwereld en speurdiensten ruw wakker geschud door een bende die zo mogelijk nog genadelozer te werk gaat. Maar dan sluwer, doordachter en met gebruik van alle moderne communicatiemiddelen...

Dit is het meeslepende, hondsbrutale relaas van de epische vergeldingsactie die op gang kwam na de Range Rover-moorden, een wraaktocht die het uiterste zal vergen van de lokale misdaadfamilies en de politie. Hun namen zullen wellicht nooit bekend raken, maar hun daden zetten het land in rep en roer.

Gangster Playboys Retribution is misdaadfilm op zijn Britse best: rauw, realistisch en vaak pijnlijk grappig.

Guardians

Tijdens de Koude Oorlog werd Patriot gevormd, een geheim team van superhelden waarvan het DNA werd gemanipuleerd en verbeterd. De leden kwamen uit verschillende delen van de Sovjet-Unie. Nadat die uiteenviel, keerden ze terug naar hun eigen land. Nu er een nieuwe dreiging is, komen ze weer bij elkaar. Sovjethelden tegen een mutant met klonenleger, in deze Russische versie van X-Men.

Dat Rusland ook op het gebied van filmproductie de strijd met de Amerikanen aangaat is al langer duidelijk. De industrie daar maakt al jaren dure en spectaculaire actiefilms, niet zelden met een patriottische inslag. Guardians is wat dat betreft geen uitzondering - niet alleen heet het geheime team Patriot, door hun verschillende nationaliteiten (Rusland, Oekra?ne, Kazakstan en Armeni?) vertegenwoordigen de vier helden ook het idee van het grote Russische rijk. Het viertal neemt het op tegen de slechterik Kuratov, die beschikt over een exoskelet en een leger van klonen. Spectaculaire actie en bombastische Sovjetretoriek verzekerd!

• Cinemagazine.nl: Evenwel is dit een interessante film. 'Guardians' hint nadrukkelijk naar de hoogtijdagen van de Sovjet-Unie. Een tijd van voor het uiteenvallen van Groot-Rusland. Toen het land, inclusief de later afvallige staten, nog één geheel vormde. Kortom, een land waar de huidige president Poetin graag van droomt.
• Preview Magazine: Als je een beetje van superhelden houdt, dan is dit een geweldige kijkervaring. Wat dacht je van een held met twee kromme messen die supersnel een auto doormidden hakt, een man-beer met een minigun, de knapste vrouw uit Rusland die onzichtbaar kan worden (en ook nog eens goede borsjt kan koken!) en een soort Magneto die geen metaal, maar rotsen kan beïnvloeden (en dat doet met een enorme zweep)? Het levert heerlijke actiescènes op.
• ScreenAnarchy.com: The film is a lot of fun indeed. No expense has been spared and there are a number of impressive setpieces, especially when the supervillain starts building a super-antenna in Moscow by stacking several landmark towers on top of each other.

Het ontbreekt Jack Daniel (George Eads) niet aan looks of charmes, maar hij verkwanselt zijn leven en talenten met gokken en drinken. Hij knoopt de eindjes aan elkaar met een klusje hier, een pokeravondje daar, tot de alimentatie voor zijn ex en jonge dochtertje en zijn schulden bij bookmaker Paulie Trunks (Steven Seagal) hem aan de rand van de afgrond brengen. Dan leert hij Duffy kennen, een steenrijke gokker die zich als zijn reddende engel profileert. Helaas raakt Jack verwikkeld in een web van moord en chantage, met Duffy's broer en bloedmooie vrouw als spilfiguren. Wanneer zijn pokermaatjes en zelfs zijn gezin bedreigd worden, zit er voor de wanhopige Jack niets anders op dan zijn kwelgeesten te bestrijden met de grootste gok van zijn leven.

Bikkelharde, intrigerende thriller met tal van plotwendingen en heel wat bekende gezichten: George Eads (CSI), AnnaLynne McCord (90210), Stephen Lang (Avatar), Ted Levine (Shutter Island), Steven Seagal (Under Siege), Vinnie Jones (Snatch), Tia Carrere (True Lies) en Fiona Dourif (The Messenger).

• Flickeringmyth.com: The film looks great with some slick and colourful visuals, the acting is pretty good and the story set-up is fantastic and really draws you in.
• Goodefficientbutchery.blogspot.nl: Seagal gets a terrific monologue about why he's called "Paulie Trunks" and has a few genuinely funny, possibly ad-libbed lines and he makes every moment count. Gutshot Straight has a lot of positives in its favor.
• Devon-cornwall-film.co.uk: A nifty little B-movie neo-noir. He may be one of the least showy CSI cast members, but blank canvas George Eads is a surprisingly effective noir antihero, and shoulders the double-crossing narrative convincingly. Admittedly, the pace does slacken in the second half of the film, but Gutshot has enough worthwhile moments to keep you interested. Inessential, but strangely appealing.

As homage, the film is visually striking, littered with moments of real cinematographic intelligence, and always watchable, in a nasty sort of way. Bloody fun in the badlands.
• Variety.com: Wilson is persuasively resolute as the sheriff, and Belushi does sweaty desperation like a pro. But McShane effortlessly overshadows both of them with a flamboyantly mannered performance charged by alternating currents of contemptuous sarcasm and pessimistic gruffness.
• Culturefix.co.uk: A brutally entertaining thriller that allows McShane and Wilson to deliver some badass cool.
• We Got This Covered: a blazing contemporary western that finds pleasure in punishment.

The Hollow Point is nonetheless a brutally entertaining thriller that allows McShane and Wilson to deliver some badass cool. 4 out of 5 stars.
• Kneelbeforeblog.co.uk: Wilson and McShane are the high points of this film. Their buddy chemistry is completely on point and there is lots of great dialogue between the two of them. Each of them can give as good as they get from the other and there are plenty of laughs too be found in their interactions. James Belushi has a memorable turn as a duplicitous used car salesman and John Leguizamo is excellent as a machete wielding Mexican hitman.
• Flickfeast.co.uk: With a number of great lines scattered throughout the script, even if it's just a running joke regarding people uttering the word asshole after their first encounters with Wilsons character (who has just returned to the town after some time away), and a few moments of white-knuckle tension, this is everything you could want from a crime thriller/neo-Western. As well as Wilson and McShane, the film also boasts some excellent performances from Lynn Collins, John Leguizamo, and James Belushi. The last one may be the biggest surprise, but it's possible that this is the sort of role he's just been waiting for over the past few years. Is it worth mentioning that McShane almost steals the movie? Yes, I think it is, because he gets many of the best moments.

Embry and Gladis make for a likeable duo with neither one of them playing the straight guy, aided by an all-star support cast including Alan Arkin as the moody town sheriff and Cary Elwes as the resident psycho with a penchant for kitchen utensil based torture.
• Filmoria.co.uk: The Beamer brothers create a comedy that is hilarious, chaotic and brilliantly poised with some fun performances.
• Hidefninja.com: pretty funny and enjoyable, certainly a title I would recommend watching.
  Nerdly.co.uk: In Security however has much more than being just a "crime caper" going for it. Admittedly the shift in tone may put some of the audience off but it's the shift that keeps the momentum of the film going, plus it allows Cary Elwes to put in an amazing, insane, and gloriously over-the-top performance as the psychotic drug dealer robbed by the bumbling Kevin and Bruce. It's the introduction of Elwes character which initiates the tonal shift and the darker aspect of the film, yet somehow his character is at the same time completely hilarious.
• Screenjabber.com: A consistently amusing comedy, In Security is certainly as good as a lot of recent bigger releases. entertaining from start to finish, do yourself a favour and seek this film out.

Wat een exotische huwelijksreis in een Caraïbisch vakantieparadijs moest worden, ontaardt in een helse nachtmerrie wanneer Ava (Gina Carano) hulpeloos moet toezien hoe haar man Derek (Cam Gigandet, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn II) neerstort en afgevoerd wordt in een "ambulance". Al snel dringt het tot haar door dat ze een pion is in een smerig ontvoeringscomplot en dat de lokale politie haar eerder als een goudzoeker beschouwt dan een radeloze echtgenote.

Maar de mooie Ava is geen katje om zonder handschoenen aan te pakken. Ze grijpt terug naar de dodelijke talenten uit haar schimmige verleden en gaat op eigen houtje op zoek naar haar ontvoerde man. En o wee de misdadigers die haar ook maar één strobreed in de weg leggen... things could get nasty!

Ze moeten een high tech codeur, specialist Mills, meenemen en komen er al snel achter dat dit geen routine missie is. Ze worden levende doelen van angstaanjagende geavanceerde militaire robots en zien dat Mills met de robots weet te communiceren.

Afgesneden en geconfronteerd met een zekere dood moeten de mariniers vechten voor hun leven om te overleven. Ze moeten uitzoeken wie en wat Mills echt is en aan welke kant ze echt staat.

• Avforums.com: It is impressive, particularly for the budget, and the AI creations are positively menacing as they stalk their human prey. Indeed, Kill Command does justice to all of the classics that it gleefully references, and the result is a surprisingly enjoyable indie gem.
• ActingHour.com: 'Kill Command' is cult film in the making, an enthralling thrill-ride, that capably maintains the balance between action and philosophical explorations of how we view technology, how technology views us, and what it means to be human.
• GamesRadar.com: Steven Gomez's sci-fi thriller comes on like the ultimate James Cameron homage and fortunately, the retro vibe extends to the storytelling, which is a brisk and well-judged balance. It's a promising debut; the director's background is in VFX and his low-budget creations outshine many blockbusters.
• TheGuardian.com: Superior sci-fi action thriller.
• TheHollywoodNews.com: A hugely creative, highly polished and truly solid action/ sci-fi. Highly recommended.
• ScreenAnarchy.com: If you love military tech and killer robots the production design are top shelf.
• RadioTimes.com: has a lot more going for it than many bloated Hollywood studio equivalents.
• FlickeringMyth.com: an impressive first feature. The production design is slick and cool, borrowing colour palettes and influences from many classic sci-fi films to achieve a clean, cold look. The story, while simple, lends itself to great dramatic tension which is beautifully executed by the cast, and Gomez's VFX experience undoubtedly contributes to the flawless CG, which looks much better than a lot of recent big-budget releases.
• BritFlicks.com: VFX whiz-kid Gomez succeeds where his peers often fail, and gives us an entertaining and exciting piece of future-tech gone wrong.

Mayhem

Je wordt genaaid door een collega en door je corrupte bazen zonder pardon op de keien gezet. Maar je haalt zelfs de keien niet. Bedrijfsadvocaat Derek Cho (Steven Yeun – The Walking Dead), kijkt in de lobby beteuterd toe hoe de politie de boel hermetisch afsluit. Quarantaine. In de kathedraal van glas en staal waart een virus rond dat alle remmingen wegneemt. Terwijl er rondom hem uitbundig gevochten, geneukt en "ontstrest" wordt, maakt Derek van de nood een deugd. Lekker besmet en tot de tanden gewapend, zoekt hij het hogerop, tot aan het kantoor van zijn gewetenloze bazen. In zijn zog: Melanie Cross (Samara Weaving – Monster Trucks, Ash vs Evil Dead), een cliënte die ook nog een eitje met Corporate America te pellen heeft. En hoe hoger de toren, hoe doller de moorden...

Oog om oog, tand om tand, zelden was het toepasselijker dan in deze ultragewelddadige, maar ook knotsgekke horrorthriller van Joe Lynch (Wrong Turn 2: Dead End, Knights of Badassdom). Mayhem is Grand-Guignol voor gevorderden, en gooide hoge ogen op het SXSW-festival.

• Variety.com: Equal parts corporate satire and violent melodrama, this indie with attitude is an exuberantly gonzo thriller.
• RogerEbert.com: A stylish, smart, propulsive gore-fest set in a corporate America that takes no prisoners. It’s like “Office Space” if Michael Bolton went on a murderous spree with a nail gun, playing on workplace stress instead of pure id, and it has a violent momentum that’s hard to deny, well-directed by Lynch.
• Scary Epidemic: Very reminiscent from horror movies like The Belko Experiment and Severance, its concept is filled with lots of dry humor and plenty of gore. Steven Yeun is fantastic in the lead role, and proves that he can carry a movie without an entire cast breathing down his neck (looking at you Walking Dead). Full review here.
• Horror-movies.ca: You MUST watch "Mayhem" when it is available. This violent masterpiece has little to no flaws, is terrifically entertaining, for various reasons, from beginning to end, and is definitely the best film of the 2017 edition of Fantasia. I reward it with a perfect 5 stars out of 5.
• Cinemaslasher.com: hanks to its likable protagonists, relatable themes, sharp editing, synthy score, and incredible soundtrack of licensed music, Mayhem is an absolute blast and should not be missed by anyone with an affinity for intense genre cinema. This one is an absolute blast that deserves the highest of recommendations.

• Cutprinfilm.com: Lynch stages impalings and hammerings and nail-gunnings for maximum impact. He makes stunning use of sound to give each event its own savage feel. And he escalates the bloodletting in creative ways. But there’s an odd sort of righteousness about it all. Yeun and Weaving are responsible for that. The pair have a palpable, natural chemistry that brings a much needed humanity to the bloody business at hand. Their quippy back-and-forth would be right at home in a romantic comedy if they weren’t, you know, mercilessly killing lots of people all the way.
• Modernhorrors.com: Lynch’s latest feature is a true crowd pleaser; it’s a God damn blast. It’s vicious and funny, and wildly entertaining.
• Thewolfmancometh: As a filmmaker, Lynch has fully embraced his enthusiasm and passion for genre cinema while also flexing his comedic chops, all thanks to the tour-de-force performance of his new muse, Steven Yeun.
• Wegotthiscovered.com: Mayhem is a wonderfully violent middle finger to corporate culture, gleeful in its desire to redecorate cubicles with red blood splatters.

• Dailystar.co.uk: GREAT performances and a witty script combine to make this one of the better British crime capers of recent years. Director Julian Gilbey (A Lonely Place To Die, Rise Of The Foot Soldier) has a lot of fun with way it's set up and he has a ball with it when it's being executed.The plot, which is supposedly based on a true story but plays out like an episode of Hustle, is deliciously twisty. But it's the clever dialogue and a dastardly turn from Allen that really makes it tick.

• Holland Media Combinatie: Het tempo is vlot, de (Britse) humor gortdroog en de karakters zijn lekker gestoord. Zoals de stereotiepe Oostblokkers: de vrouwen zijn hoerenen de mannen barbaarse oplichters. Liefhebbers van de opbouw van Tarantino en films als 'The Hangover' en 'Lock, stock & two smoking barrels' zullen dit kunnen waarderen.
• Cinemagazine.nl: In Redirected zitten shots en hoofdstukvoering van Tarantino, het tempo van Guy Richie en de hilariteit van The Hangover. Stop ze in een grote kookpot en doe er een goede scheut Litouwen bij en je hebt Redirected. Met grafische elementen om aan te geven waar in het verhaal we zijn, komt een duidelijk Tarantino-gevoel mee. Maar dat is niet het enige: de zwarte humor in het algemeen en wat concreter refereerde een shot met lopende mannen in pakken aan Reservoir Dogs. Alle vooroordelen over Litouwen (overigens in de film uitgesproken als "Lithou-fucking-wania") worden aangehaald en uitvergroot. Iedereen is crimineel, alcoholist, hoer of oud, of alles tegelijk. Kippen lopen gewoon los in huis en in de dorpen is eigenlijk helemaal niets, behalve iets te dikke mensen. Redirected blijft spannend en verrassend tot het eind. De actie volgt elkaar in rap tempo op. In Litouwen is de film een succes, maar Redirected is voor iedereen grappig en herkenbaar. De stereotypen confronteren je met de vooroordelen, ook over de dronken Engelsen. Verder is er niets moeilijks of dieps aan de film, en dat is maar goed ook, dit is puur vermaak.
• Britflicks.com: Redirected is a nicely made film with high production values ans has laughs a plenty. A comic gangster caper that's worthy of a look.

There is tension and trauma bubbling under the cool dangerous exterior with Dyers stone killer only giving glimpses of his former self with darkly comical wisecracks before dispatching the next victim in a more violent and inventive way than the last.
• HeYuGuys.co.uk: With propulsive storytelling from Reynolds and a reined-in, powerful Dyer in the form of his life, Vendetta's a simplistic yet gripping movie.

Yet some are clearly born to it, relishing the way that blood and brains spread over a ring-marked sticky bar top. Count Joe Begos among the latter and VFW is his VHStastic nightmare, an unrelenting throwback to a gleefully caustic view of America's capacity for untrammeled nastiness.

A take on John Carpenter’s ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13 (right down to the Carpenter-esque score), this old genre staple gets shaken up a bit in that, rather than have the bad guys totally outmatch our heroes, the good guys are more than able to hold their own – and then some.
