Antiviral


SYNOPSIS

Virussen van zieke beroemdheden zijn zeer gewild door geobsedeerde fans. Syd March werkt bij een kliniek die injecties met die virussen verkoopt aan de aanbidders. Hij levert daarvan ook illegale monsters aan criminele groepen door de virussen in zijn eigen lichaam de kliniek uit te smokkelen. Nadat hij geïnfecteerd raakt met het virus waaraan superster Hannah Geist is overleden, wordt Syd een doelwit voor verzamelaars en doorgedraaide fans. Hij moet het raadsel rond haar dood oplossen, opdat hem niet hetzelfde lot staat te wachten.

  • BIFFF: Tijdens zijn eerste jaar als filmstudent, werd de 24-jarige Brandon Cronenberg geveld door een knoert van een griep. Deze ziekte bleek een perfecte broedhaard te zijn voor de incubatie van Antiviral. Met de hulp van cameraman Karim Hussain (Subconscious Cruelty, Hobo With A Shotgun) creëerde de jonge Cronenberg een unieke wereld en sfeer in zijn langspeelfilmdebuut. Ook al doet de thematiek denken aan het vroegere werk van zijn vader, toch is dit duidelijk een ambitieuze en intrigerende film van een aanstormend talent met een eigen stem.
