Een schrijfster komt zelf in het middelpunt van het verhaal dat ze onderzoekt wanneer ze brutaal wordt aangevallen door een beruchte sekteleider en massamoordenaar, een man die een onverklaarbare controle over zijn volgelingen uitoefent. In een wereld vijftig jaar in de toekomst wordt Joe's leven verscheurd wanneer hij ziet hoe zijn vriendin Aislinn voor zijn ogen wordt neergeschoten. Maar de moordenaar verdwijnt in het niets.
