Drugsbaron William Spinks koestert een bizarre fascinatie voor de mooie Sadie Hill en hij gebruikt Bobby en Frank, twee bevriende gangsters, om haar te benaderen. Wanneer Sadie plots vermoord wordt, dreigt hun lucratieve deal echter in het water te vallen. Voor de criminelen zit er niets anders op dan een vrouw te vinden die als twee druppels water op Sadie lijkt... voor Spinks erachter komt. Ze besluiten Holt en Joe Mulligan in te schakelen, twee broers die bij hen in het krijt staan, maar niet echt voor de misdaad geschikt zijn.

Voor deze sexy misdaadthriller vol plotwendingen en zwarte humor trommelde regisseur Richard Gray een cast op voor fijnproevers van gangsterfilms: John Corbett (Sex and the City 2), Justin Long (Live Free or Die Hard), Gina Gershon (Showgirls), Jerry O'Connell (Jerry Maguire), Gillian Jacobs (Hot Tub Time Machine 2), Luis Guzmán (The Last Stand) en Steven Bauer (Scarface).

• 1nfluxmagazine.com: Director Richard Gray has outdone himself with his latest effort, with no small thanks to scriptwriter Michele Davis-Gray. And backed by such a strong and experienced cast, it's no surprise The Lookalike turned out so entertaining. It was good seeing the prolific John Savage and Scarface co-star Steven Bauer back on form. Another reason I had such a fun time with this somewhat busy film, was down to the fact everyone knew not to take anything too seriously and simply enjoy the ride, as I suggest you also do. Highly entertaining!

Montana, 1881. Een voormalige slaaf komt aan in een uitgedoofde boomtown, thuishaven van buitenbeentjes van alle slag. Zijn komst valt samen met de moord op een goudzoeker die net een nieuwe ader heeft gevonden. De meedogenloze sheriff wijst de zwarte nieuwkomer meteen als de dader aan. Maar niet iedereen gelooft dat klakkeloos.

Murder at is een adembenemende combinatie van western en whodunnit die de conventies van beide genres enerzijds alle eer aandoet, en er anderzijds ook een loopje mee neemt. Naast de al vermelde acteurs is ook de rest van de cast behoorlijk indrukwekkend, met o.m. Thomas Jane (The Expanse, The Thin Red Line), Richard Dreyfuss (Jaws) en Zach McGowan (Black Sails, The 100).

Aan de voet van de onherbergzame Sugar Mountain betrekt Miles Parnell (Drew Roy, Falling Skies) zijn vriendinnetje Lauren (Anna Hutchison, The Cabin in the Woods) en broer Liam (Shane Coffey, Pretty Little Liars) bij een waanzinnig snel-rijk-plannetje. Miles zal "verdwijnen" in de Alaskese wildernis, "vermoord" door zijn broer Liam, die "verliefd" was op Lauren. Wanneer Miles daarna heelhuids terugkeert, kunnen ze voor grof geld twee verhalen verkopen: dat van de broer die alle ontberingen trotseerde en dat van de trouwe broer die onterecht een moord in de schoenen geschoven kreeg. Helaas laat niet iedereen in het afgelegen dorpje zich zomaar zand in de ogen strooien. Bovendien dreigen andere verwikkelingen het strakke plan te doen ontsporen. Want Liam is écht verliefd op Lauren. En Miles verdwijnt. Zonder aanhalingstekens.

Visueel verbluffende, ijzingwekkende misdaadthriller met Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones) en Cary Elwes (The Princess Bride, Saw) als de crimineel en de cop die de "literaire" plannen van de broers danig in de war sturen.
